Schools, guns and the aftermath: Shootings at Florida schools since Sandy Hook

On Feb. 14, Nikolas Cruz, a 19-year-old former student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, opened fire in the school. There were 17 fatalities and 30 injuries. In the aftermath of the worst mass school shooting in Florida’s history, South Florida News Service is taking a closer look at school shootings in Florida in the last five years.

Media coverage stirs mixed feelings from grieving students [Video]

On Feb. 15, the community of Parkland held a candlelight vigil at Pine Trails Park for the 17 lives that were lost in the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School the day prior. The event received an extensive amount of attention from various news outlets, which stirred mixed feelings among the grieving students.
