Chris Delboni, the former news director for the South Florida News Service, hosted a video and editing workshop on Thursday afternoon in the Department of Journalism newsroom. The event was sponsored by the FIU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
According to Delboni, currently an adjunct professor at the school, the goal of the workshop was to produce a one to three-minute video suitable for posting to YouTube and/or social media platforms.
Workshop topics included: shooting and framing, iMovie and Premiere, getting clear sound as well as interviewing tips. In particular, Delboni stressed the basics of storytelling and focusing on a specific topic or angle.
Cindy Mantilla, a student the Spanish journalism master’s program, noted that technology is always changing and asked how much what was being said would be relevant in two years.
“The important thing to do is to practice and stay up to date with technology,” Delboni responded.
She said she would be happy to do another workshop if enough students show interest.
Delboni is normally on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays during the fall semester from 4 pm to 6:30 pm in ACII room 255. However, as she is teaching during part of that time, students are asked to email email@example.com to set up an appointment.
