SPJ’s New America Award:  Honors public service journalism that explores and exposes an issue of importance to immigrant or ethnic communities currently living in the United States. Although not required, collaboration with ethnic media is taken into account.

SPJ/Sunshine State Awards – 20th Annual.  The Sunshine State Awards recognize quality journalism in the best tradition of our profession. Out-of-state journalists will judge all entries and may award first-, second- and third-place honors in each category. Finalists will be notified in late April and winners will be announced at the annual Sunshine State Awards ceremony. We also offer a student division for students at Florida colleges and universities.

Features Journalism Excellence-in-Features Awards – Student General Feature: Feature treatment of any A&E, lifestyles or news topic originally published in a student publication, either in print or online. Entries can be a single trend story, profile, interview, news feature or general feature of 1,000 words or more. Sidebars accepted. Each entry consists of one story. Multiple bylines accepted.

RADIO TELEVISION DIGITAL NEWS ASSOCIATION / Student Murrow Awards — The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow’s pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the electronic news profession.

Suncoast Student Television Awards of Excellence.

White House News Photographers Association: Student contest.   This contest honors visual journalism. All work entered in this contest must be considered journalism and adhere to the code of ethics of WHNPA found at whnpa.org.
